Verneece Miller

Verneece Miller, 93, of Amarillo, entered Heaven on September 06, 2024. 

 A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia St, Amarillo, Texas 79110. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024,  at Schooler Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens. 

Verneece Miller was born January 9, 1931 to William Omer and Lula Inez Prock in Provo, Arkansas.

 In her early years, the family moved to several states. After graduating high school in Rolla, Kansas, she settled in Amarillo, Texas, and attended Draughn’s Business School. She worked as a secretary for McAfis Furniture.

Verneece married H.I. “Red” Nelson, Jr., on June 24, 1950. After the birth of her two children, she became a stay-at-home mom. In 1969, she studied at Amarillo College to become an L.V.N. She worked at High Plains Baptist Hospital for 18 years, 12 of those in the G.I. Lab, retiring in 1989. 

In August 1976, she married James L. “Jim” Reid, who died on July 31, 1996.

On November 9, 2000, Verneece married Arnold Earl Miller. They were active in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 45 Uppers Dance Club at Senior Citizens, and were fortunate to travel the world. They took cruises and tours throughout the US, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and Russia. Arnold died on July 22, 2011.

She loved her home, her flower gardens, the outdoors, crossword puzzles, her family, and her little poodle “Rusty.”

Verneece is preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald, sister Verna, and stepson John Miller. Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter Sherry Naylor, husband Mike of Amarillo, and son Jim Nelson of Amarillo. Stepson Mike Miller and wife Jan of Tulsa, OK, stepdaughter Patty Kleinke and husband Keith of Maplewood, Minnesota. Two grandchildren, Cindy Naylor Prater and husband Nathan, Brent Naylor, and wife Molly of Amarillo. Three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Seven step grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
