Vernon Cross, 84, of Amarillo, passed away February 6, 2016.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Sweetwater Cemetery in Sweetwater, Texas, with Phyllis Cook, a family friend officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia Amarillo, Texas 79110.
Mr. Cross was born on April 15, 1931 in Stanton, Texas, to Gordon and Josie Cross. He married Bonnie Marie Hancock on June 17, 1953. Vernon received his Bachelor’s Degree from West Texas State University in Canyon in 1966. He then went on to teach science and math at Snyder Jr. High for 28 years before retiring in 1994. His hobbies included woodworking, reading, history and pen and ink drawing. He was a Methodist and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his wife on October 8, 1995; his parents; two brothers, H.T. and Selwin Cross; and four sisters, Noreen Murphy, Bennie Curfew, Margaret Powell, and Mildred Carrigan.
Vernon is survived by one daughter, Karen Cross of Amarillo, one son, Mark Cross and wife, Tina, of Waco; one sister, Rosa Starnes of Lubbock; two brothers, Ronald Cross of Sand Springs, Texas, and Glen Cross of Midland, Texas; two grandchildren, Emily Wright and husband Lee of Columbus, Ohio, and Robert Lundberg and wife, Hope, of Belton, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Brayson and Tyler Lundberg, both of Belton, Texas, and Matthew Wright of Columbus, Ohio.
