Virginia Louise Elkins, 97, of Amarillo, TX, formerly of Tulsa, OK, passed away October 19, 2011. Memorial services will be held in Craig Methodist Retirement Center Chapel, 5500 W. Ninth., with the Rev. Steven Teel, Mrs. Elkins' grandson, officiating, at 11 a.m., Monday, October 24th. Visitation will be at the funeral home, Sunday, October 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. A private entombment will be held in Tulsa at Floral Haven Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Mrs. Elkins was born August 19, 1914, in Denver, CO, to George and Louise Crosby. She was educated at Wheatridge High School, Wheatridge, CO, and she received her nurses training at St. Luke's School of Nursing, Denver, CO. She married Lloyd E. Elkins, May 27, 1934 in Wheatridge, CO. They lived most of their 70 years of married life in Tulsa, OK, moving to Amarillo, TX in 1997 to be closer to family. Virginia was a servant in the priorities of her long life: Faith, Family and Friends. She served in every position in her churches, led programs associated with her husband's engineering career, supported each and every school and extracurricular activity of their three children and was a friend to all, in the sunshine and the shade. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004 and her first-born daughter, Marylou Snuggs in 1992. Her family expresses love and gratitude to her angel, Angela Elliott, and support team, Regina, Lynette and Ashlee, Yolaine of Odyssey Hospice, and Reverend Perry Hunsaker, St. Paul's Methodist Church, for the care and love they gave her at the end of her earthly life.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Barbara and Ken Teel of Amarillo; Lloyd and Judi Elkins of Alamo, CA; her son-in-law Ed Snuggs and wife, Nancy; six grandchildren and spouses, Elliott and Lori Snuggs, Kathy and Rob Langford, Stuart Snuggs, Steve and Kris Teel, Monty and Kim Elkins, and Karis and Chris Lieto. She was known and loved by her thirteen great-grandchildren: Ryan and Lindsey Snuggs; Andrew, Mark and Stephen Langford; Samantha, Jessica and David Teel; Brenden, Christian and Adam Elkins; Kaiden and Kayah Lieto, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends.
