Virginia Gruber

August 24, 1930 — April 16, 2012

Virginia "Ginger" Gruber, 81, of Amarillo died Monday, April 16, 2012.

A prayer vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, in Brentwood Chapel at Schooler Funeral Home.  Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 19 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Dreher as celebrant.  Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Mrs. Gruber was born August 24, 1930 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Horace and Loretta Wilcox McMinn. Ginger was employed by KAMR for 24 years.  She was a charter member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1948.

Ginger was a fun-loving person and enjoyed people, especially her family.  She loved to play games and host bridge parties at her home.  She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, WAGGS, and Tall in Texas Holiday Ramblers.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Gruber; her parents; a brother, Jim McMinn; and a niece Gayle Ritchie.

Survivors include her cousins, Bill McMinn and wife, Nell, of Milano, TX and Richard McMinn and wife, Tammy, of Altus, OK; her sister’s-in-law, Eileen Detten of Amarillo, and Patricia Arnold and husband, Edward of Sun City, AZ; Brother-in-law Wayne Gruber and wife, Anne of Jonesboro, Ark; and many nieces and nephews whom she considered to be her children.

The family would like to thank Phillas Rich for the kind and loving care she gave to Ginger.
