Virginia "Muggins" Leonard

Virginia “Muggins” Leonard, 88, of Amarillo died May 22, 2021.

Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2021 in Llano Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m., at Anna Street Church of Christ, 2310 Anna St. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Virginia was born January 29, 1933 to Jim and Toby Stoddard at home in Amarillo, TX. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952 then married Sam Leonard on February 27, 1954. Virginia worked for attorneys then the Amarillo Airforce Base until 1962.  At that time, she quit work to become a full time homemaker. All she ever wanted was to be a wife and mother and have a home to take care of. She felt very blessed to have all of that plus the added blessing of being “Nanny” to her three grandchildren.

Her faith was very important to her. Her family started attending West Amarillo Church of Christ when she was two and continued attending there over six decades. Virginia became a member of Anna Street Church of Christ in 1997. She worked at Best Products as the bookkeeper for many years when her children were older. She never was upset or had any fear upon entering home hospice at the beginning of March 2021. She didn’t see it as an end but only looked forward to what was to come.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Leonard; brother, Raymond Stoddard; and sister, Jimmie Beth Magee.

Virginia is survived by children Sam Leonard and Penny Drummond and her husband, Jeff; sister, Karen Stoddard and her husband, Bob; brother, Mike Stoddard of Lubbock; and 3 grandchildren, Cole, Caleb and Samantha.
