Wallace Henry Huff

Wallace Henry Huff, age 85, died September 23, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 28th at Schooler Funeral Home’s Brentwood Chapel with Rev. Nate Magloughlin officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Schooler Funeral Home.  Burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home.

Wallace was born in Quinlan, Oklahoma to Bertha Maggard Huff and Chester Alpheus Huff.  Wallace was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. His father worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years and was stationed in Canyon when Wallace entered the Army in 1944, while a junior at Canyon High School.  He served in the European Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for exemplary service. He married his sweetheart Patsy L. Huff on December 31, 1947, shortly after returning from Europe in 1946, after having been pen pals for 2 ½ years.

While living in Canyon, Wallace worked for Bellah Food Store and Buffalo Food Store.  After moving to Amarillo in 1954, he worked for Green Brothers Firestone Retread, owned Western Shamrock Service Station for 5 years and retired from Pantex in 1989, after 22 years.

He loved his wife of 62 years, his children, grand-children and great grand-children extremely.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Edwin, his grandparents and his wife.

He is survived by one daughter, Linda L. Keefer of Arlington; three sons, William (Bill) Huff and his wife Margaret of Arlington, Michael D. Huff and his wife Debi of Canyon and James L. Huff of Amarillo; four grand-children, two step grand-children; two great grand-children, two step great-grandchildren and numerous cousins and nephews.

During his final days, he was a resident at the Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home in Amarillo.  The family wishes to extend their immense gratitude to the staff of the Veterans Home and to the staff of Interim Hospice  for the care and love which they gave to their father.
