Walter S. Bull

Lt. Walter Stephen Bull, Jr., age79 of Amarillo died Monday, December 10, 2012.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-7 PM.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 14, 2012 at Hillside Christian Church South Campus, 6901 S. Bell St. with Rev. J. Chris Kutin officiating.  Entombment will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas.

Walter was born May 17, 1933 in Collingswood, NJ to Mabelle and Walter Stephen Bull, Sr.  He graduated from Collingswood High School and on June 19, 1954 he married Dolores Kinkade.  He proudly served in the US Air Force for 4 years during the Korean War where he served as a Jet Mechanic Instructor.  After the Air Force, Walter worked in the Amarillo Police Department for 35 years until his retirement.  He obtained a Master’s Degree from West Texas University in Criminal Justice and taught at Wayland Baptist University, Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University.  He was also an instructor at the Amarillo Police Academy for many years.

Walter was proud to be able to say that he was a direct descendent of a traveler on the Mayflower.  He loved family and community and he served in many ways.  He was a leader in the Boy Scouts of America.  He was a member of the Lions Club, Optimists Club, a life member in the American Legion as well as serving in the Gideons International.  He served as a volunteer for many years in the Meals on Wheels Program of Amarillo and proudly served as a V.A. Volunteer.  He and his wife were members of Amarillo Bible Church for 55 years.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Donald Bull.

Survivors include Dolores, his wife of 59 years; one daughter, Diana Lynn Saxon and husband Jerry; four sons, Doug and wife Cristi; David and wife Karen; Dwayne and wife Margie, all of Amarillo and son Daniel and wife Linda of Jefferson City MO; daughter in law, Meiko Bull of Lake Elsinore, CA; one sister, Barbara Vollmer of South Carolina; one brother, Jerry Bull of Fairview Tennessee; 20 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.  He will be dearly missed.
