Walter Clifford Skipworth, 94, of Ingram, passed away June 1, 2018.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 14200 I-27, Amarillo. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., Amarillo.
Walter Clifford Skipworth, was born February 3, 1924, in Houston. His parents were Myrtle Dotte Rolfe, housewife, and Norman Clifford Skipworth, truckdriver.
While playing high school baseball, Walter acquired the nickname Skip, by which most of us know him to this day. Skip graduated Claude High School, in Claude, Texas in 1942.
He enlisted in the army February, 16, 1943, and was a Technician 5th Grade, in the 1886th Engineer (Aviation Battalion), in the United States Army. He was discharged February 13, 1946 at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Skip met Lou Ellen Wilkinson on a blind date in 1948. They were married August 21, 1949 in Amarillo and had three sons, Rolfe, Drew, and Darrel.
He was very active with his sons in scouting for 30 plus years as assistant Packmaster of Pack 80 Cub Scouts, as well as Troop 80 Boy Scouts, where he was assistant Scoutmaster and served on the board committee, bus driver, and story teller. He received the Order of the Arrow Award, The Silver Beaver Award, and a room in the Troop 80 Scout building was named after him. He worked for Pantex from 1961 to 1993 as Transportation Manager.
When Skip retired he and Lou Ellen traveled throughout the tri-state area in their RV. They had a summer home in Pendaries, New Mexico, and a winter home in the Rio Grande Valley. Later, they settled in their year-round home in Ingram, Texas, where he passed away the morning of June 1, 2018.
He is predeceased by his parents; and a grandchild, Jaime Dibrell.
His family included his wife, Lou Ellen; and their sons and wives, Rolfe and Cindy, Drew and Kim, and Skip (Darrel) and Cheryl; his grandchildren, Kimberly Hutchins, Nicholas Skipworth and Crystal Skipworth; and three great grandchildren, Camryn Dibrell, Kolby Hutchins, and Hudson Skipworth.
