Wayne was born March 30, 1947 in Charles City, Iowa to his parents, Wayne Hartwell and Viola Zarnstorff Cole.  He graduated from Hampshire High School (Illinois) in 1965.  In 1970 he married Dianna Kay Bright on May 29th in Amarillo.  The couple was married over 46 years.
Wayne served in the United States Air Force for over twenty three years before retiring from the military.  During his service the military took the family throughout the United States, Japan and The Netherlands.  He also served a tour in Vietnam.  After his military service he then began a career with the United States Postal Service as the regional AMT.  Wayne retired from the Postal Service after eighteen years.
