Weldon Joe Broaddus

August 31, 1954 — July 23, 2016

Weldon Joe Broaddus, age 61 of Red River, NM died July 23, 2016 in Red River.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date at Bitter Creek Ranch in Red River, a place owned by his friends Steve and Priscilla.

Weldon was born on August 31, 1954 in Hereford, TX. Weldon attended Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. As a young man he worked in the Texas and Oklahoma oil fields. He also ran cattle alongside his Dad in Vega, Texas and ultimately established the Bar V Cattle Company. Weldon enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing and the peacefulness of the mountains which eventually led him to the quaint little village of Red River where he found his piece of heaven on earth. He worked for 17 years as the General Manager for D-Bar-D, Inc. in Red River, New Mexico.

Weldon was a lover of life and enjoyed the great outdoors; it was a way of life for him. Always in demand on the dance floor, he loved music and dancing! Friends, well he had a few…he didn’t know a stranger. He had a tenacious will to live and fought his cancer courageously.

Weldon was preceded in death by a son, Sheldon Joe Broaddus.

He is survived by his wife Sheila, whom he married on November 2, 2002; sons Joshua Joe Broaddus of Wildorado, Texas and Derrick Joe Broaddus, of Amarillo, Texas; his daughter Tess Elizabeth Broaddus, of Amarillo, Texas; his parents Jacque Valentine Pratt of Wildorado, Texas and Billy Joe Broaddus of Vega, Texas; two sisters, Judy Starks and husband Kirk of Denton, Texas, and Nancy Broaddus of Waimea, Kauai; five grandchildren, Taylor, Jordan, Madison, Tyler, and Morgan; 3 nieces, 1 nephew, 2 great nieces and 1 great nephew; his very best four legged running buddy “Ringo”; and many other family members and friends.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation in his honor, NMCCF, 4901 Land Avenue, NE, Albuquerque, NM 97103, nmcancercenterfoundation.org.
