Wesley W. "Chief" Masters

November 10, 1937 — October 9, 2015

Wesley W. Masters (Chief), 77, died on October 9th in Amarillo. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 Sunday afternoon at St. Stephens UMC with Dr. Jim Smith officiating.  Graveside service will be 10:00 Monday morning at the Center Plains Cemetery, west of Hale Center.

Wesley was an athlete, a genius, a scholar, had a brilliant mind for business and trusted people to a fault. He was a revolutionary in agriculture, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, a devoted Christian, and a controversial man.  He believed in the goodness of people, second chances, and service to others.  He gave generously and was ever the optimist.  A true visionary, he dreamed big and always had plans.  He was passionate about life, loved Texas Tech University, and he loved his family.

He is survived by his three children, Toni Knapp and husband Wes of Amarillo, Wes Masters and wife Karla of San Angelo, and Elise Rhodes and husband Steve of Bushland; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to the Texas Tech Foundation, School of Agriculture, P.O. Box 41081, Lubbock, TX 79409-1081.

The family wants to thank the loving and caring staff at Ware Memorial.
