William “Bill” F. Ellington, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, January 19, 2015.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Groom, with Pastor Andy Dietz officiating. Burial will follow in Groom Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home 4100 S. Georgia St.
William was born May 29, 1927 in Liberal, KS to James and Cora Jane Ellington. On August 20, 1967, he married Roberta. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree which he put to good use as an owner of grocery stores in Liberal, KS and Groom. He served in the US Army during WWII as Tec 5 and was awarded the American Theatre, WW II Victory and WW II Occupation ribbons. He loved and adored his granddaughter Alex and they were best buddies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother; and one sister.
Survivors include his daughter, Robbie Thornton and husband Bruce; and one granddaughter, Alexandria Reece Thornton, all of Groom.
Family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church of Groom.
