Bill was born May 6, 1929 in Drew, Mississippi to Arthur and Bessie Henley. He was one of twelve children. His family moved to Stuttgart, Arkansas where he enlisted in the US Marines. He met Marrian Moore and they married in Fallbrook, California in 1954. They were the proud parents of five children, four of them born in California and one here in Texas. Bill was a career US Marine, retiring after 30 years of service from the military in 1970. He was involved in WWII, Korea and two tours of Viet Nam. He was a decorated GY/SGT who proudly served his country. After retirement from the military, he went to work for Amarillo College and was employed in the ground maintenance department for eight years.
He was a family man and loved spending time with all of his family. He enjoyed a good Western movie, and especially a good military movie. He enjoyed taking long walks and reading his Leatherneck magazine. He spent a great deal of time watching CNN, and was up on all of the current news and politics. If you asked his opinion about the state of the country, he would sure let you know what he thought. He loved reading his Bible. He was a member and an elder of Victory Tabernacle.
He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the American Legion, the VFW and the DAV. He was proud to be an American.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and seven sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marrian; his daughter Melody Kennedy and husband Dan of Rutledge, TN; three sons, Mike Henley of Amarillo; Carl Henley of Amarillo; Steve Henley and family of Denver, CO; daughter Charlsie Delgado of Arizona; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Ray and husband Ronald of West Monroe, LA; Estelle Puckett of West Monroe, L; and Pauline Delaney of Joplin, MO; his special niece Dianne McPherson and husband Bob of West Monroe, LA; and a very large extended family covering the entire United States.
