William Edward "Poppy" Morris

William Edward “Poppy” Morris, 88, of Amarillo died Friday, July 11, 2014.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 14, 2014 in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel with Dr. Larry Payne and Rev. Aaron Summers officiating. Interment will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 in Wattensaw Cemetery in Lonoke, Arkansas with Rev. David Bentley officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.

Mr. Morris was born February 24, 1926 in Des Arc, Arkansas to John and Emma Morris. He was the oldest of 5 children. He married Bernice Ward June 2, 1948 in First Baptist Church in Lonoke, Arkansas. He served in the 17th infantry in the US Army from 1945-1946 during WWII. They moved to Texas from Arkansas in 1952. He worked for the railroad and Borden’s. He worked for Shook Tire Company for 28 years and then Jim Fore for 20 years. As an active man, he mowed yards until the age of 87. He was baptized on Easter Sunday in 1959 at Tascosa Baptist Church, and was a member at Coulter Road Baptist Church for over 27 years. Poppy loved the Texas Rangers and fishing, but most of all, he loved his wife of 66 years; his family and his friends. Poppy was a quiet man who did not have an unkind word for anyone. He loved his Lord and shared his strong work ethics and love for family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Sherman Edward Morris, brothers, Billy Morris and Rubert Morris, and a sister, Ruby Turner.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice, daughters, Lynne Vivens and husband Mitchell, Sandy Edwards, and husband Randy, his grandchildren, Alisha Denton and husband Sean, Jaymie Roberts and husband Derrick, Brice Vivens, Micah Vivens, Josh Edwards and wife Candace, Brandon Edwards and wife Corey, and his great-grandchildren, Zack, Kambree, Mattie, Charlee, Blayke, Sawyer, Hadley, Harper, and Breckyn. He is also survived by his loving sister, Lois Fawcett.

Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00-3:00 PM at the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
