William E Morrisey of Amarillo died Friday, September 21, 2012.
Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2012 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev Scott Raef as celebrant. Burial will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin Oklahoma. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.
William, better known as Bill, was born to James and Margaret Morrisey in Hiteman, Iowa on September 25, 1919. He attended school in Albia, Iowa and then went on to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Bill served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Lt. Col. Bill Morrisey participated in the European Theater. After the war, he remained in the Air Force as a reservist until his retirement from the reserves in 1979
Following the war, Bill was employed by Mason Hanger-Silas Mason Company in Burlington, Iowa where he worked as a section manager in quality engineering. He was joined in marriage to Wilma Chabrian in Centerville, Iowa on February 19, 1955. In 1975, he was transferred from Mason Hanger in Burlington, Iowa to Pantex outside of Amarillo, Texas, where he worked until his retirement.
While in Burlington, Bill was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Paul’s Catholic Church. After moving to Amarillo, he became a charter member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the St. Thomas Men’s Club. Bill was an avid golfer and was a member of the Men’s Club of Tascosa Country Club for many years. Bill also enjoyed traveling, visiting locations from Ireland to Hawaii throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Phyllis Conry and Margaret Martin and his brother, Paul Morrisey.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wilma Morrisey; two daughters, Patricia Strait and husband, Steve of Woodward, Iowa and Sharon Nichols and husband, Scott of Rochester, Michigan; one son, James Morrisey of Parker, Colorado; two grandchildren, Alex and Adam Strait.; cousin, Dr. Bill Morrisey of Phoenix, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
