William A. Scott, age 79, of Amarillo passed away in Houston on November 8, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Laurel Ellen Scott.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Paramount Baptist Church with Dr. Gil Lain officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 South Georgia.
Bill was born in Benton, Arkansas on April 25, 1935 and grew up in Hope, Kansas on a working farm. He was the son of the late Elmer and Irma Scott. Bill graduated from Tulsa University with a petroleum engineering degree in 1964 and worked in the oil and gas business his entire adult life. After moving to Amarillo in 1970, he worked for Amarillo Oil, Pioneer Corporation, and GSM Professional Engineers. He is survived by his wife, Laurel, his son Brent of Washington, D.C. and daughter, Lorie of Magnolia, Texas. He has seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Bill was deeply loved by his friends and family. He and Laurel have been faithful members of Paramount Baptist Church where Bill served as a deacon and particularly enjoyed a weekly men’s bible study group that frequently met in a mechanics garage. He loved to fish, attend family gatherings, and enjoy relaxing perusal of the latest oil industry journals.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 10, 2014 at the funeral home.
