William Eugene Winchell

William Eugene “Bill” Winchell, 88, of Amarillo died Saturday, September 21, 2013

Mr. Winchell was born August 18, 1925 in Rapid City, SD. to Bud Oscar Winchell and Ann Elizabeth O’Connell Winchell.  He served in the Air Force as a navigator during World War II, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colo. and was an Agriculture entrepreneur in farming, ranching, and feedlot operations from South Dakota to California to Texas, and New Mexico before retiring to Amarillo in 2003.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley A. Winchell and his sister, Moira Jane “Tiny” Mann.

Dad will always be remembered for his cowboy smarts and wisdom.  One of his favorite sayings was “When all else fails, follow the instructions.”

Survivors include three children; two daughters, Sandra and her husband Roger Kingsland of Carson City, Nevada; Virginia and husband Tim Monk of Amarillo; son Bill Jr. and his wife Kathy of Dalhart, five grandchildren; Brady Malcolm and his wife Janet of Olympia, WA; Doug Malcolm and his wife, Rachel of Spokane, WA; Trent Monk and his wife Shellie of Nashville, TN; Travis Monk and his wife Amy of Amarillo, TX;  Toree Winchell of Dalhart, TX; five great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. He also has (d) five special nieces of SD and their families and many friends from SD, NM. & TX.

As per his request, he will be cremated with a memorial service and burial at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Arrangements are with Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas
