Willis G. Thompson, 83, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016.
Services will be at 6:30 PM Thursday, March 24, 2016 in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel with Chaplain Bob Crass, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Amarillo, Texas 79110.
Mr. Thompson was born August 16, 1932 in Timber Lake, South Dakota to Wilbur and Margaret Thompson. He graduated from Hill City High School in Hill City, South Dakota in 1950. One June 6, 1950 just two days after graduation Willis enlisted in the United States Navy. Willis was trained as a storekeeper and worked in the supply field throughout his enlistment. He served one tour in the Navy and then went to work at the Naval Ammunition Depot at Bangor as a civilian. He was honorably discharged in 1953. Willis had worked in the Helium Field Operations for the Government for over 35 years working in Anchorage, Alaska, and Honolulu. During his career, Willis received a special achievement award for his accomplishments.
Willis was preceded in death by his parents; Wilbur and Margaret Thompson; his sister, Sharon Parsons and two brothers, Frank Thompson and Chuck Thompson.
He is survived by his partner of 45 years, Dan Mc Reynolds; his beloved dog, Tammy Lou; two sisters, Marilyn Searles of Silverdale, WA and Ardy Jeffries of Custer, SD; nine nieces and nephews, Jodie Johnston, Denise Jones, Kara Camp, Kristi Paris, Donna Young, Darla Treworgy, Dale Parsons, Kevin Thompson and Mike Searles; and several great-nieces and nephews.
