Woody Senkel departed from this life on Monday, January 16, 2012. The older of two brothers, he was born in Dallas, Texas on June 12, 1941 to the late Woodrow Ernst Senkel and Beatrice Adele Huber Senkel. Woody graduated from high school in Andrews, Texas in 1959. He loved music and was an active member of the Andrews High School Mustang Band, and throughout his life, he always participated in his church choir.
Woody devoted his career to the United States Army and retired as a Viet Nam veteran. In one of his military evaluation reports, his commanding officer stated that Master Sargent Senkel was the most dependable non-commissioned officer he had ever served with. Dependability was only one of many of Woody’s selfless qualities. His life was full of unconditional love, laughter, generosity, and support of family and others. He will be deeply missed, but his family is eternally grateful to God to have been blessed by this humble and wonderful man who made a tremendous impact on all our lives.
Woody was a devoted member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Woody is survived by his brother, Larry Huber Senkel and his wife, Carol Lewis Senkel of Houston. He also leaves his beloved niece, Natalie Senkel Kirklin and her husband, Bradley McMahn Kirklin of Houston, and his beloved nephew, Nicholas Lawrence Senkel and his wife, Mary Plumb Senkel also of Houston.
